So the day started off great. Instead of bagles we had biscuts and gravy for breakfast which were so good!
It was pretty overcast when we left, which made it nice and cool out. We got on rt 66 pretty much right out of the church and stayed on It all day.
About 15 miles in we stopped at this little store on 66 called the rt 66 mall. There were series of murals on the wall all rt 66 themed. The inside was this cool little thrift store. They had the huge cactus made out of horsehoes that was awesome looking. I bought a hood ornament for my bike, which is a little horseshoe with a map of Oklahoma in the middle.
About halfway through the day we stopped for lunch at this ice cream place. The van took a wrong turn so we ended up just buying lunch.
After lunch we rode by some cool attractions. One was this huge blue whale on this little pond. You used to be able to swim in the pond but the water looked pretty dirty when we stopped.
We flew for the last 20 miles. The terrain was pretty flat but it was so hot out so that made it a little harder.
After talking with some locals at the host site we were informed that it's actually cold out. The average for this time is in the 100's and it was only in the low 90's.
