So it was a long long day. Started off the morning with a flat tire before we even left. Then while I was changing it I looked at the radar image of the weather along the route. The storm was the largest in the country at the moment and spanned from our current host site to the next…. And it was moving towards us. As we rolled out it started raining.
We took a wrong turn out of the host site and ended up lost about 5 minutes later. We got back on route and about 10 miles later I got another flat. We stopped on a porch to get out of the rain so we would at least be a little dry while changing it. Once I finally got it changed and patched the hole with a dollar we headed out again.
Rode for about 15 miles and stopped for a break. We were all a little wet and hungry. Then 2 miles from lunch I got ANOTHER flat. There was a huge gash in my tire that I just couldn’t patch so they had to bring me my extra tire from the trailer.
Changed my tire and my flat issues were over for the day. After lunch we hit a major major head wind. We were pedaling like we should have been going 25 mph but we were only going 12. We were all so tired but still somehow made it to the host site. We stayed at a local community center.
We had dinner sort of donated from a local taco place. We all ate so much then headed back to the host site. There was a wedding going on while we were at the host site and the bride and groom walked through a couple times. It was so funny.
