Few, so this was only supposed to be about a 95 mile day. However we all took a wrong turn which lead us on a 12 mile detour.
The morning was so pretty when we were riding. It was foggy and so quiet on the road. The first 15 or so miles were pretty much down hill. Then we hit a gravel road which lasted a good 3 miles. It did a number on all of our bikes, however I didn't get a flat!
Then we hit a patch of road which they were re-taring. When you rode over it little rocks would shoot up from your tires and I may or may not have hit myself in the face... a couple times. By the end of the road my bike was also covered in tar.
We had first lunch in the parking lot of a grocery store. Then we took one wrong turn out of the parking lot which lead us in the wrong direction. After talking to a bunch of locals we finally figured out which way to go. It was a very hilly detour. But surprisingly I wasn't that tired. We passed a few Amish houses and they were mowing their lawns with horse drawn mowers...
We climbed to the top of this one hill and waited there for a while cheering people on as they came up. By then we were at about mile 70 and all a little hungry. So we stopped at a subway and had second lunch. After we left we saw this huge black cloud in front of us, we figured that we could beat the storm. But about a mile away from the real second lunch the temperature suddenly dropped 20 degrees and the wind started gusting. So we pulled into a gas station and waited out the storm
About 30 minutes later we hit the road again. We swung by second lunch really quickly and then headed out. We flew through the last 30 miles. There were these HUGE rolling hills at the end which we just crushed. If i would have hit those hills when I was training I don't think that I would have been able to do them at all.
We rode through Springfield into the church and we were all so excited to get there. But to be honest I felt so good, I wasnt really even that tired considering that I had just ridden almost 110 miles!!
