Cordell to Wheeler Texas 78 miles
Another early day to beat the heat. It's official we are in the mid west, we had breakfast burritos to start the day off.
We got back onto SR 152 right out of the church by the one and only stop light in town. The first 11 or so miles were pretty much all uphill. But it want too hot et which was nice!
The next 30 or so miles to first lunch are pretty much a blur. Just hills, cows, and open road. We did make it almost 40 miles to lunch by 9:30. First lunch was at a gas station pretty much in the first town that we saw from when we started.
Ate really quick and then headed back out to try and beat the heat. I didn’t feel very good at first lunch and the sun was starting to wear on me. We pulled over after about 15 miles and I ended up getting into the van. While I felt like I was giving up and really didn’t want to get in, I know that it really was the best thing for me.
We have a 100 mile day tomorrow and it was better that I rest a little before that instead of pushing myself too far today.
We set up second lunch at the Texas state line which was pretty cool. While I was bummed that I couldn’t ride over the state line I did at least get to walk over it. We were also exactly at the 100th meridian.
After everyone stopped and ate we packed up the van and drove to the host site.
A bunch of people swam at the pool down the street, and the rest of us napped in the wonderful air conditioning.
We had a great bbq dinner and now its time for bed since we have a 4:30 am wake up.
