Joplin MO to Vinita OK 60 miles

60 miles, today was a pretty short day! And a good thing because we all needed a little bit of a mental break. Had a great breakfast at the church and then pedaled off. The terrain was pretty much flat for most of the day, with a couple hills here and there. But nothing that anyone really struggled with.

We hit Kansas after about 5 miles. Then after about 10 miles we were out. I guess you could say where not in Kansas anymore! Then off to Oklahoma. In the few miles that we spent there we did notice that it smelled a little funny....

The next 20 or so miles to lunch flew by. We had lunch in a truck stop/parking lot/ abandoned lot. We took our time though since it was only 11 and all we had left was 25 miles. We rode for 5 miles and then stopped for popsicles and soda at a gas station.... classy.

The last 20 miles were through farm country. I think most of them were cattle farms. I knew this because 1 I could smell it and 2 there were a bunch of signs that said "eat beef". Once we got into town we asked couple of kids if there was a pool because we were so HOT. We found it but decided to go to the host to get our bathing suits first.

When we got to the host they told us that they had already reserved the pool for us from 4-6. But it was only 2 so we went and got ice cream while we waited. Hard life right? After ice cream we headed off the the pool swam and showered.

The church we are staying at threw us this great BBQ complete with tons of desserts! Then we gave a presentation about B&B and opened the floor up to questions from them. After that we had an affordable housing presentation.

I'm off to explore the town a little and then clean my bike.
